A Message from Mrs. Mayer. . .

Our primary objective
is to give our students
the tools and knowledge
to be successful
in junior high, and in life.

Welcome 6th Graders!

This year will provide many exciting learning oppourtunities for you.  We will be participating in Camp KEEP and the Greek festival in addition to regular school curriculum.

My goal for my 6th grade class is to prepare them for junior high.  This includes how to manage and be responsible for their assignments as well as learning the information contained in the state standards.

Students should have mastered basic math facts and we will utilize these skills as we explore fractions, ratios, algebra, and integers.  In language arts we will use our textbook as well as novels to learn about literary elements such as plot, theme, and motivation.  We will be doing several writing assignments as we learn paragraphing, sentence combining, and using an active voice in our writing.  Our social studies focuses on ancient civilizations including the Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians.  In science we are focused on Earth science and will learn about oceanography, plate tectonics, and other elements of our earth.

In all that we do, our primary objective is to give our students the tools and knowledge to be successful in junior high, and in life.

Things to look forward to:

Camp KEEP in November
Greek Festival
Video production
Skate nights

Supplies:

Most supplies are provided for your student.  I do ask that students have one of each of the following colored spiral notebooks:  red, yellow, blue, green, and purple.  No pens of any type may be used to complete class work.  Students need to bring their planners every day, and parents should be checking planners every day.
