The staff at Downtown Elementary School is committed to the concept of raising the whole child.  We believe that a child proficient in academic skills but lacking in social graces will find it difficult to live up to his full potential.  Likewise, a child who is socially adept with his peers but unable to master relationships with adults will find it challenging to apply his academic skills in a rewarding manner.  We believe that those children who are able to masterfully blend academic growth with positive peer and adult relationships will mature into a well-rounded individual capable of attaining his personal goals and life-long dreams.

The Downtown staff encourages good work habits and excellent attendance.  We strive to help students grow and understand themselves.  They are encouraged to explore new educational opportunities and develop lasting friendships.

This handbook is provided to you so that you may know how we create the structure that enables your child to be successful.  Within these pages, you will find rules, consequences, and procedures that are implemented school wide for your child’s success.  Please take the time to read through this book thoroughly so that you may fully understand and support our program.
