3. What do the H's and L's mean ?

The H's are high pressure systems and the L's are low pressure systems.

High pressure systems usually bring nice sunny weather.

Low pressure systems usually bring stormy weather.

4. What are the blue and red lines?

The blue lines are cold fronts and the red lines are warm fronts.  The wind pushes them so that they move from place to place.  They are called fronts because as they move they change the weather that is in front of them.

For example - The weather on Monday is warm and sunny.  A cold front moves into Bakersfield Monday night.  It changes the weather so that Tuesday it is cloudy and cold.

5. How do they predict weather ?

People who report and predict the weather are called Meteorologists.

They use satellite images, and other information to watch the weather patterns of the Earth.

The weather in the USA moves from the west to the east , so if it rains in Bakersfield today then they can predict that there will be rain to the east of us tomorrow.  These prevailing winds are called Westerlies.  Can you explain why they would be called Westerlies?
