Extra Curricular Activities
College Heights offers many different fun and exciting after school clubs and activities that your child may be interested in. Click on anyone of the following links to find out more about that activity.
What is ITSA? It is our after school tutoring program that offers students who need some extra help an opportunity to work with teachers in a much smaller class setting. The average student to teacher ratio is 10:1. ITSA has been found to be effective in getting students caught up to where they should be. If you are interested please contact your child's teacher and ask them for a permission slip to enroll your child in the program.
Mrs. Childres is the director of our campus' Cougar PAC (Performing Arts Club). The club has been in existence for three years and gets better and better each year as more students see productions and want to be a part of this exciting and rewarding club. Last school year they did two productions; "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" in December and "A Giant's Giant Pizza" in March. This year they will be performing a play Jennifer Payne and Isaac Childres (Mrs. Childres' son) wrote a few years back. It's a take off on the Cinderella story and called "If the Shoe Fits?". It stars Jessica Murillo as Cinderella, Jose Padilla as the Prince, Miranda Padilla as the cruel step mother , Megan Rumple as the Queen and Darin Bean as the King. Our very own principal, Alfonso Gamino, is even taking part by playing the Big Bad Wolf! There are 25 members in the cast and crew and are very dedicated about learning all there is to know about all aspects of theater. We are looking for a sponsor to purchase T-shirts for our club. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Virginia Childres at College Heights School.
College Heights participates in the Boys and Girls club football and basketball leagues when in season. Try-outs are open to anyone in grades 4-6. College Heights is fortunate to have Coach Henry devote so much time to our kids. It is fun to watch him take a diverse group of kids and form them into a tight, cohesive team. He works them pretty good! Football is over for the year, so look for tryouts next year if you are interested. Basketball season is going full swing.
All students who are in grades 3 - 6 are invited to run in track. Track practice is Friday's at the end of the day. Goals and Objectives
Today, millions of children return to an empty home after school. When the school bell rings, the anxiety for parents often just begins. Our After School Program keeps children safe and out of trouble and also engaged in enrichment activities. Our goal is to provide a wide array of benefits to children, their families, schools, and the whole community. After School Programs help and improve the academic performance of participating children. Finally, our goal is to provide an educational and safe environment for children who go to an empty home every day. Also, our goal is to improve academics, attendance, and positive behavior.

Chess is a fantastic game that helps develop problem solving skills, good sportsmanship. College Heights Chess Club meets every Friday in room 34 from 2:30 to 3:30. We also hold school wide chess tournaments that are open to any student in grades 3-6 who would like to play. At the end of the year, students challenge staff members to a tournament. Last year, it was close, but the students won!
