Jefferson School - a small school with a big heart.

Jefferson Elementary School was established in 1917. For most, if not all, of the ensuing years, Jefferson students walked to school instead of riding a bus. Even today many, many parents walk to the school along with their children every morning. The school has been and continues to be an island of stability and safety for the immediate community.

Through the years Jefferson School has had many dedicated and talented teachers, administrators, and support personnel. Working together has always been a hallmark of the staff, and teamwork is an increasingly dominating characteristic of everything we do at the school.

A true sense of history and tradition is exemplified by the Jefferson School Annual Enchilada Dinner. This fundraiser has become a part of the community tradition surrounding the school. This next fall the event will have taken place for 51 consecutive years!

The parents of students at Jefferson School are stakeholders in their children's education, and have always demonstrated a sense of ownership thereof. Similarly, the staff shows their sense of ownership of the educational process in their dedication and hard work. The opening phrases of Jefferson School's mission statement reflect our desire to assure that students understand the significance of their stake in their future:

Our mission is to instill in our students a sense of ownership of their own learning. . .
