School Site Council

The School Site Council meets once each month, the third Tuesday of the month, in rooms 102/103 at the school, at 2:10 pm.
We want all parents to know that you are welcome to attend any school site council meeting. You never need an appointment. School Site Council meetings are always open to the public.
PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL
The California Legislature originally devised the School Site Council in 1973 through the Early Childhood Education Law (E.C.E.) for K-3.
E.C.E. became S.I.P. (School Improvement Program), expanding to K-8 in our school district. All of our schools are now guided by a School Site Council (SSC).
The SSC has always been the group of adults who cooperatively and collaboratively develop the plan to provide services to all children at the school.
In order to assure fair, equal and equitable participation by all adults with a vested interest in the children as students, the SSC must have parity..."Equal numbers of parents and staff."
Certain things must be accomplished by the SSC for the plan to be developed:
1. Conducting a needs assessment (collecting information about the current program and its success)
2. Analyzing the results
§ Establishing priorities
§ Agreeing on the main ways to achieve those goals
3. Writing down the plan in a logical fashion (Also easy to read and understand)
§ Needs
§ Priority
§ Objectives
§ Activities
§ A procedure for evaluating results
4. Devising a Budget within the special funds provided by State and Federal funding
§ Various modifications are required in October and January of each year
5. Suggesting the general actions or activities necessary to reach the goals
and objectives of the Program
6. Monitoring the implementation of the Program at key points throughout the school year
Every three years the written plan must be revised by the oversight of the School Site Council.
The school staff is given the vast majority of the responsibility in developing the plan but only under the watchful eye and approval of the SSC.
The following are ongoing duties of the SSC:
§ Meeting regularly (usually once per month)
§ Establishing an agenda for the meeting, keeping minutes of all decisions made
§ Attending training sessions, i.e. SSC Training, Parent Education, etc.
§ Developing skills necessary to make meetings work
§ Distributing information about the successes and the current status of program activities
§ Encouraging the entire community, especially parents, to participate in the education process
