SECTION III – PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

GOALS

Staff Development

1.  Continue to provide technology in-services using on-site, district, and other consultants.

2.  Provide release time for teachers to attend on-site technology in-services.

3.  Encourage all staff members to attend local as well as state technology seminars, workshops, and conferences and to visit other school sites to see existing technology use.

4.  Encourage teachers to become ‘experts’ at using specific software so they can share their expertise with the rest of the staff.

5.  As LCDs and SmartBoards become more prevalent at Stiern, schedule and in-service to help teachers more effectively utilize this technology in their classroom.

6.  Provide a paid classified Network Support Technician (NST) to coordinate, supervise, and maintain all technology at the school site.  This person, along with the Technology Committee, will be responsible for in-services and training for staff, students, and the community.

7.  Provide technology training classes for parents and the community at times convenient for them.

Classes scheduled from the Kern County Superintendent of Schools office are advertised, and staff members are encouraged to attend.  Often any costs to attend these classes are paid from specially funded monies.

Teachers are encouraged to attend courses on the California Teacher Technology Proficiencies (CTAP).  There are three levels of proficiency which can be demonstrated.  Currently there many teachers at Stiern who have reached Level II and at least that has reached level III.
