SECTION V – MAINTENANCE & SUSTAINABILITY
A specific allotment of the school budget occurs each year which the Technology Committee can designate for technology purchases. Purchases are made that follow the site technology acquisition plan. Upgrades of computers and other equipment are done on a regular basis. In addition, staff members are encouraged to apply for technology grants for classroom use.
Requests for media such as software, CD’s, and videocassettes are also submitted to the Technology Committee for consideration. Software must generally be available to use on the LAN so we usually purchase lab packs or school wide licenses for products. All software, CD’s, and site licenses are housed in the library equipment room. All media is purchased in accordance with the district’s acquisition policy.
An equipment inventory is kept which lists all technology equipment at the school site and is kept by the Network Support Technician. See Appendix Three
Extended Maintenance plans are not purchased for hardware. We rely on the manufacturer’s warranties. If the warranty has expired and it cannot be fixed in-house, we use the district repair service. If they cannot repair the equipment, they send it out to the appropriate vendor. An amount is budgeted from the specially funded budget for repairs each year.
Any equipment that is so old or out of date that it does not fit into the school technology plan is discarded according to district policy. It can then be used by other schools if needed, used for parts or sold at district auction.
