LIBRARY

The Walter Stiern Middle School library media center has ever-expanding fiction and non-fiction sections, written in both English and Spanish, that provide materials for recreational reading and curriculum supplementation.

Students are required to have a Stiern Identification Card to check out books.

A large reference section provides a variety of resources that are continually updated in all areas. (CORE novels and supplemental materials are available for checkout by teachers.) Textbooks can be checked out to students for overnight use. A parent section contains materials on parenting skills and tips on living with a middle school student.

All materials are accessible throughout the school using the Winnebago Electronic card catalog. There are 20 library computers on the school network available for student use. The library media center also has a digital camera, a flex cam, and a full-page scanner, all of which are available for student projects. Students using this equipment for approved projects will be instructed in its proper use.

Copies can be made for $.05 each on a black and white copier. Color copies can be made by arrangement. Cable TV is available through Direct TV with lesson plans available through Cable in the Classroom. Videos and videodisks can also be broadcast on this system.

In the event that these books are not returned, parents/guardians will be expected to pay the replacement cost. Students will also be expected to pay for defaced or damaged books.
