The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

The de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Legion in Lincoln Park comprise the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Together, these two museums house the most comprehensive and highest quality art collections in the northwest region of the United States. Over 50% of their images are available online.

Diego Rivera Web Museum
Pintor muralista, fue uno de los grandes artistas del Siglo XX. Nació en la ciudad de Guanajuato y en 1892 se trasladó a México con su familia. Estudió en la academia de San Carlos y en el taller del grabador José Guadalupe Posada, cuya influencia fue decisiva. Más adelante recibió en París la influencia del post-impresionismo y del cubismo, en cuyo lenguaje se expresó con soltura.

The Chagall Windows
The Synagogue of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center is illuminated by a hanging lantern and by sunlight which streams through the magnificent Marc Chagall Windows. Chagall was a Russian-born painter, printmaker, and designer whose works combine images from personal experience with formal symbolic and aesthetic elements by virtue of their inner poetic force, rather than by rules of pictorial logic. Preceding Surrealism, his early works were among the first expressions of psychic reality in modern art. His works in various mediums include sets for plays and ballets, etchings illustrating the Bible, and stained-glass windows.
M.C. Escher Gallery
A gateway to many of the images to one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th Century. Escher is best know for his many drawings based on optical illusions.
Leonardo da Vinci
A virtual museum dedicated to the works of Leonardo Da Vinci. The original "Renaissance Man", Leonardo da Vinci was a great painter, designer, scientist, futurist and thinker. His works are even more popular now than they were in his day.
Paintings of Vermeer
Vermeer's paintings! Jan Vermeer (1632-1675) created luscious canvases of limited scope: generally women and men in seventeenth-century rooms, but also occasional outdoor scenes, allegory and religious themes. The fascination lies with the intricate combination of light, color, proportion and scale that enhances the moods and reality of the subjects.
